The workshop was good fun as well as informative, most of all it inspires some lateral / creative thinkingI went home with a big smile on my face. I loved uploading my pics onto my computer so I could get a better look. I also really enjoyed converting some of the to black & white, something I've never done before. I was disappointed in quite a few of my pics but pleased with some of the others - I guess that's normal!
It was excellent. I arrived a complete novice, happy to have the camera on “auto” all the time, met a pleasant bunch of people, had a photography course run by two excellent trainers who were informative and good fun and spent the day wandering the grounds of a delightful country pad. I was enlightened by the artistic techniques opened to me, and further educated on the potential of the camera I have. (……………now you’ll hate this). I will probably continue with the camera on “auto” for most of the time but will definitely think more before I take a picture, particularly about the composition and what I’m trying to portray, but saying that I will experiment with the camera on aperture priority and see what results I get.
Overall a hugely enjoyable day and great photo opportunity
I really enjoyed the day. As well as some revision (always helpful) I learnt alot more. I got to know my camera better, gained courage to try new things and hopefully improved my powers of composition. Both you(Ian) and Barry were very approachable and never made me feel I asked silly questions! There were some people who attended who certainly were very experienced even though it was a beginners and improvers course. When I have attended other things in the past (not photography) I have often found this extremely irritating as it tended to be a distraction away from those who really needed to learn more. However, I feel in this case it was handled very well.
Thank you both very much.
The whole thing was very good, possibly the most interesting element was “thinking outside the box”.
The whole day was just very relaxing and pleasing. Possibly the venue made it that much more enjoyable, but the group, the group size, facilities contributed as well, and credit must be given in no small way to the two of you. You made the whole group inclusive, made the whole experience pleasant for all from the novice (me) to I suspect the more knowledgeable. The double act worked very well with just about the right mix of control over the group and room and time for individual activity.
You managed to give advice for a good range of abilities and we all got some good feedback at several points during the day, so I thought it worked out pretty well. I found the advice about shooting RAW very helpful and the comments about my methods (use of histogram etc) useful. It was useful to recap about basic techniques of composition.
